The Present- For Teaching Plot Twist and Theme
This story has the most amazing plot twist! Get your tissues ready! A young boy is behaving like an awful brat. He disrespects his mother when she brings him a new puppy. He even treats the puppy terribly when he discovers it is missing a leg. But a plot twist and beautiful theme emerge when viewers realize the boy is acting out because he has also lost a leg! Eventually, the boy realizes that the relentless puppy is undaunted by his own missing leg and only wants to play. This inspires the boy to rediscover his own joy, and students learn that things aren’t always as they seem upon first appearance.
This workshop has a unique way of helping students learn the techniques writers use to create plot twists. Students will even get to use the templates to create their own plot twist. Students will also be guided through questions that lead them to discover the theme. ANSWERS included for everything.
Glued- For Teaching Plot Elements and Structure
This hilarious short film is perfect for teaching plot because a frustrated mother reaches her boiling point (climax) after a serious of conflicts (rising actions) where she tries to get her video-game-addicted boy to go outside and play with the other kids. This is a favorite among students because most of them can relate to video game addictions. I especially love to do this workshop around Mother’s Day.
This workshop guides students through all of the elements of the short film plot, then allows them to put their knew knowledge to use by creating their own narrative story. They can use the templates to help guide them! ANSWERS included for everything.
